Eddie, Alice and Peter
Alice and Peter took me out to Woorabinda Reserve in Stirling where I got to meet for the first time, little Eddie Betts. It’s was overcast day and we had most of the reserve to ourselves. This was my final session before closing down new bookings for a while, and like much of our city at the moment, everything around us felt quiet and peaceful.
Eddie has a bounce in his step and a bright look in his eye that you would expect from a pup (he’s not quite 1) - but it’s while we’re on his favourite daily walk in Woorabinda, I notice a budding gentleman in him. While a friendly and outgoing boy, he’s not overly excited by other dogs, or impossibly distracted by groups of people. He’ll happily accept praise from anyone, but ultimately he is there to do the walk that he loves with his Mum and Dad; with all of its familiar smells, textures, and in this instance, a whole lot of Fritz.
I was lucky enough to join Alice and Peter on one of their walks, to capture a part of their routine that plays a significant part in the relationship they share, in such a stunning and special place.
How did Eddie come into your world?
We’ve wanted a doggo for years and we are very lucky to have a kind (if a bit dodgy) landlord who was happy for us to expand our menagerie of pets. Alice searches high and low for the right corgi puppy, who we eventually found in Moonta.
How would you describe his personality?
Eddie is a very friendly and outgoing pooch with a real sense of humour! He loves everyone, especially children (maybe for their equally short legs?) and other dogs. He’s such a local personality around our neighbourhood that when we go for a walk, everyone greets him by name but can never remember who his people are! He’s also a big sook - he loves nothing more than lounging on the couch being lavished with adoration, and isn’t happy when anyone else starts getting the attention instead.
What does he love to do the most?
Eddie loves nothing more than tearing around our house, knocking over plants while being chased by Pete who pretends (convincingly) to be an enormous half man-half monster beast.
If he could tell us all something about you, what would he say?
“They’re not bad, but a bit stingy with the Coles barbecue chicken”
What's everyday life like with Eddie by your side?
When we first got Eddie, we had (silly) rules in place like “no dogs on the bed!” and “no dogs on the couch!” Luckily those have eased and now the day starts with a cuddle in bed. Now that we’re both working from home, we spend the day trying to stop Eddie sharing his opinion during group calls, breaking up feuds between him and the cat (Eddie loves her, she hates him - a take as old as time itself), and choking on airborne dog hair every time we try and drink a cup of tea or eat a sandwich.
How has having a dog changed your life?
Getting Eddie was the best decision we’ve ever made. He is truly the prince of our hearts! We’re now the obnoxious people who try to get our friends to do the same in a “children will change your life!” kind of speech
Eddie is a small dog with a big personality, and don’t be fooled by his short legs because I’ve learned first hand that this guy can speed. He’s a very special little guy and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to spend the time with him, getting to know his big personality and admire the love this little family have for one another.
