Kaiya + Rebel

How did Kaiya come into your world?

Kaiya came into my life in May 2019. She was a RAAF Military Working Dog and she was flown over from Perth to Brisbane especially for me. The first moment I met her I was out field and I instantly fell in love with her. She came straight to me for a cuddle and I knew at that moment that she was special. It didn't take me long to form an extremely strong connection and bond with her. She's been by my side ever since. Kaiya retired from service a week after her 10th birthday in July 2023. She became accustomed to the home life very quickly and she was the missing puzzle piece to complete my little family.

How would you describe her personality?

If I could describe Kaiya’s personality in one word it would be loyal. The bond between a handler and her working dog is unlike anything else. She is also the most loving and gentle dog that I have ever met. Even though she was a working dog and trained in bite work, she has the most beautiful soul. I always say to people that she is a one in a million dog and they soon discover that it's true.

What does she love to do the most?

Cuddle, cuddle and cuddle!! Kaiya is happiest when she is around people receiving attention and love. She also loves laying on the grass in the sun with her doggie brother and sister. As she's getting older now she enjoys a short walk in the morning and is then happy to snooze all day.

If she could tell us all something about you, what would she say?

I would hope they would say that I'm a great dog mum. That I provide unconditional love and attention and that I'm giving them the best life that I know how to provide.

What's everyday life like with your dogs by your side?

Everyday life with my dogs is pure happiness, I couldn't imagine not having them in my life. Waking up in the morning and laying in bed having snuggles is the best way to start my day. Living life with dogs is just better, I'm never alone and I always feel loved.

How has having dogs changed your life?

I can't even begin to explain how having dogs has changed my life. Just thinking about the impact they have made on my life brings me to tears. When I come home from work they are so happy to see me as I am with them. Whenever I'm sad they are always by my side, they just know that I need them in that moment and I'll continue to be there for them until it's time for them to leave this world.
