Obi, Maria + Jake
Let’s keep things simple, and open with Maria’s beautiful words. I’m not sure there is a more heartwarming note I could add;
“As I lay here writing this, Obi is fast asleep all curled up on top of me. Feeling his little heart beat against my chest, his breath against my skin and the warmth of his belly - nothing compares to the love and joy a dog can bring into your life. We’re so grateful to have him.”
This is what it’s all about 💞
How did Obi come into your world?
As soon as we purchased our first home we knew we wanted to share it with a dog. We had been looking for an oodle-type pup for about a month, then one day, we just happened to come across a post on Facebook. Four little faces looking for a home - I got in contact with the breeder straight away. We visited that weekend and a week later Obi came home with us at 8 weeks old.
How would you describe his personality?
Obi is a happy dog. He loves people and is a ball of energy when around other dogs. At home, he loves to cuddle, he’s always keeping an eye on us but on the odd occasion he also enjoys his alone time; either sitting in the garden and watching the trees & birds or sitting on the bed watching the world go by from behind the window.
If he could tell us all something about you, what would he say?
He would tell you that his parents are recently home all the time, but he wish they worked less and paid more attention to him. That mum never shares her food, but dad will always sneak something under the table, which is why he loves sitting on dads side every meal time! He’ll tell you that Mum and Dad get upset when he does naughty things but that doesn’t last long, he knows he can get away with anything!
What does he love to do the most?
He loves playing with other dogs, he’s very social and fearless, he will say hi to any dog, big or small! He also enjoys going for walks and sniffing everything in his path, belly rubs, chewing on sticks and tearing apart toilet paper rolls (we literally save all our empty rolls just for him!)
What's everyday life like with your boy by your side?
Since COVID started here in March, we both have been lucky enough to work from home and we couldn’t be any happier! We go for walks every morning, have lunch and play time together in the backyard or at the local park, followed by mid day cuddles (where Obi is usually sleeping on our laps while we’re working). After work it’s another walk, if the weather is good it’s to the beach or the dog park. Weekends can be full of adventures to different parks, cafes, wineries and our favourite, Bunnings! Or chilled, at home, in the garden or cuddling on the couch.
How has having your dog changed your life?
Life is brighter, happier and full of joy! Our routines have adjusted for the better and our weekends are planned around what we can do and where we can go with Obi. Obi has taught us to take time and enjoy all the little moments in life, to be more forgiving and to strive to be just like him; non judgmental and to love unconditionally. We couldn't imagine life without him.
Thank you Maria for sharing your family’s story, you’ve really summed up so well exactly why having a dog is one of the best kinds of therapy. I’m so pleased that Obi found you both and has been with you during such a challenging year, turning it around and changing your lives for the better. Obi Wan Pawnobi, you’ve given us hope!
x Dani.
