Quincy, Katy and Josh
Katy is a great friend of mine, and has loaned me her beautiful boy Quincy several times over the years to be my very special dog model. His face may seem familiar if you follow me on social media, in fact a portrait of Quincy was my very first Instagram post, back in the day. He’s a particularly unique little guy, with the lion’s share of quirks, and a most contagious grin. Most recently, Quincy, Katy and her partner Josh joined me in a photo session for a behind-the-scenes video project, at a local reserve near their home in Bridgewater.
Quincy had been unwell for the last few months, and heartbreakingly, just this month has left us to go chase chooks over the rainbow bridge. If you knew Quincy, you couldn’t help but love him, he was the most beautiful weirdo and I’m so gutted for Katy and Josh who I know gave Quincy the best years of life on Earth that he could have possibly had.
Katy gave her answers to my questions while Quince was still with us. So while myself, and those close to this fluffy kook are feeling devastated, let this blog serve as one small way to celebrate this unique, sweet, trail racing, poop-eating, creek-loving, whirlwind of a good boy.
How did Quincy come into your world?
Josh and I were about to move into a place that was not a share house! So the dream having of a furry friend could finally become a reality. Quincy came from a lovely family in the south-east, his long hair made him not very 'farm-friendly' so he came to join us and started his life as an urban sheep dog!
How would you describe his personality?
Quincy is a total weirdo, but also the sweetest most gentle boy. He's always been an only child and never wanted for siblings (he'd rather hang out with the people). He is most smoochy first thing in the morning, so the best time for a cuddle is in bed. When we go for a walk, he likes to go the same route every night so he can check his messages and cause a raucous out the front of a few houses.
What does he love to do the most?
Quincy's favourite things include: Chase the ball, wait for the ball to be thrown (and chase ball), never bring the ball back and see how much it annoys the people. Swim at the beach (or a creek or a big puddle). Have visitors over, especially when they bring treats and belly rubs. Check the chicken coop for eggs, check the chicken coop for chicken poops (a delicacy). Go for walks: especially if we go past Bear the Rottweiler's house and engage in shouting match with Bear. Cuddles in bed with the people.
If he could tell us all something about you, what would he say?
He would probably say we don't feed him enough cheese or ice cream or take him to the beach enough. He would probably also tell everyone that I definitely can't and shouldn't sing the high bit of Queen's 'Somebody to Love'. I think he might also like to show off how he's got us wrapped around his furry little toes tell you that he runs this house.
What's everyday life like with Quincy by your side?
The best. Especially during these strange Covid times. He is always good for a cuddle in the morning - he likes to have a nice long lie-in on our bed and can usually be found there a few hours after the day has started. He's always down for some couch time and happy to help you finish off that bag of corn chips. Quincy is the best company when working from home.
How has having a dog changed your life?
Having Quincy has been the best, he's so funny and sweet and just looking at him makes my heart sing (and I sing to him a lot too). I can't imagine not having all the dog hair everywhere!
Rest up, Quincy. You always were and always will be loved.
