Rosie, Kelly + Ben
Rosie, Kelly, Ben and I met in the scrubby Mount Osmond foothills for our afternoon session, and even with a small echidna-related interval, together we had a wonderfully laid back afternoon, bathed in golden light, and met with an early moon rise.
Kel and Ben shared with me a glimpse at Rosie’s unique story.
How did Rosie come into your world?
We were thinking of getting a dog and subscribed to alerts on pet rescue. Rosie (or Buttons as she was called at the time) popped up one day as a 3 month old pup who’d been rescued from the pound and we knew instantly she was the one. She was based in Whyalla which is where Kelly’s family lives, so Kel got onto her Dad to go check Rosie out. He called that night and said she’s ours and he’d already paid the deposit as he’d fallen in love with her and knew we would too. 2 years later and here we are!
How would you describe her personality?
Rosie is a typical only child, spoilt and sometimes bossy, and she can be a bit moody at times too. There’s definitely a little bit of rascal about her personality as well but mostly she’s pretty calm and sooky and loves a good snuggle with her Mum and Dad.
If she could tell us all something about you, what would she say?
Rosie would definitely tell everyone she has the best dog parents! Also that her Mum always sings to her and changes the word “you” to “Roo” in any song. She has a lot of nicknames - Roo, Roo Dog, Rat Dog, Chonky Monk, Roody, the list goes on...
What's everyday life like with Rosie by your side?
It’s the best! She comes with us most places so she gets to enjoy everything we do. We aren’t sure what we did before we got her.
What does Rosie love to do the most?
Rosie loves going to work with Ben and sitting in the header/tractor watching the world go by. Second to that she loves swimming at the beach and chasing the seagulls. She also enjoys going to daycare once a week and she’s pretty good at napping too.
How has having a dog changed your life?
Rosie has taught us both patience and unconditional love. When we moved to the country she was definitely Kelly’s rock while she adjusted to a different lifestyle and Ben says she has opened up his heart!
This was such a special afternoon, and I am so pleased that I was able to spend time with Kelly and Ben, getting to know a little about them and the freckled, furry girl that gels their family.
Thank you for sharing a window into your world, it’s been an absolute delight.
x Dani.
